is to play the 2006 season in SCRFU's Division I alongside SFV,
Santa Monica, Belmont, HB, OMBAC, BackBay, and Las Vegas. We are
confident we can compete and continue the proud Grunion tradition.
Thanks to Bob Schwartz's hard work as mgr. of the Fossils the Old

If you've had the opportunity to check out a home game at Elings
Park or visit the Santa Barbara 7's in August, hopefully you've
seen that we've got something special here in Santa Barbara. As
President of the Grunion RFC and the SB Rugby Association, I'm asking
you for your support by purchasing a lifetime membership or making
a donation to the SB Rugby Association so that we can continue to
grow and build our club & rugby association.
To bring you up to date, the club is entering its 27th year in
Southern California Rugby. Last year the club finished 2nd in Div.
II and finished 10th at Nationals in Rhode Island. The club also
had a strong 7's season finishing off as Cup Champions of the Santa
Barbara 7's for first time since the inaugural tournament 7 years
prior. This year the club finished an impressive pre-season which
included hosting two kiwi sides, the SCRFU Griffins and 2 Div. I
teams in preparation for the 2005 season, and it's paying dividends
as the 1st XV is 3-0 in league play with maximum points and has
aspirations of returning to the National stage and improving on
our performance last year.
Thanks to Bob Schwartz's hard work as mgr. of the Fossils the Old
Boys have hosted both the LA Smog and Los Jaguars in the past 4
months and the Old Boys are planning on entering the Catalina Tournament
in May. This past weekend at Elings was a snapshot of SB Rugby.
At Elings Park, we hosted the UCSB women, Channel Island U19's as
well as the Old Boys all on the same day as the Grunion's home match
with SLO
on other weekends it has been Westmont College &
the UCSB mens' sides. At Elings Park we've bought/installed two
sets of goal posts, donated 2 sets of bleachers and recently purchased
a storage shed for our equipment & gear and if you've been out
to a home game the food is first class and there is plenty of Foster's
and Grunion/Fossils gear for you to support the home side. It's
great to see more & more old & new faces coming out on game
day!
For a one-time fee of $350 you will receive LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP
status (over 35 years of age) with the club. After this season the
cost will be going up to $500. That includes the following club
entitlements: 1) Free from club annual dues for life. 2) Eligible
to play for Grunion Torpedoes or Fossils Old Boys side. 3) All game
fees waived (Free socials). 4) Free Canterbury of New Zealand Grunion
Tracksuite & recognized as an honored member of the Grunion
RFC. 5) Last but not least
FREE BEER at home game beer gardens

On behalf of the Grunion RFC, I want to invite you
to become a lifetime member of the Grunion RFC. In an effort to
raise funds for the club and to increase old boy participation we
are embarking on an aggressive membership drive. We need your support!
To bring you up to date, the club just finished its
26th season competing in Southern California, finishing 2nd in a
very competitive Division II. We fell short to San Fernando Valley
in the Southern Cal Finals at a packed Harder Stadium. The final
was an incredible game going into sudden death overtime with the
Grunion scoring 3 tries to San Fernando's 2.the difference being
a few missed kicks. The game was a testament to the longstanding
rivalry between SFV and the Grunion. Fortunately, we still received
a berth for the USA Rugby Round of 16 Tournament in Newport, Rhode
Island where we went 1-1 and finished 10th in the country overall.
The guys have gotten a taste of Nationals and intend on returning
next year.
This summer we look forward to hosting the 7th annual
Santa Barbara 7's Rugby Tournament at Elings Park on August 21st.
Last years tournament included 27 teams from throughout Southern
California. We also have Fiesta coming up at the end of July and
the Club will once again setup and run the taco booth as a fundraiser
for the Special Olympics. We are also looking to further contribute
to the new home of Grunion Rugby.Elings Park, where former Grunion
Mike Warren is the executive director. In 2003 we bought new goal
posts for the field and this summer we are purchasing new bleachers
for the upper field in addition to the guys volunteering at park
events. Be sure and come on out and volunteer at the Taco Booth,
sit in the Firestone Beer Garden at the 7's tournament, or put on
the boots at the annual Santa Barbara Rugby Day on October 30th.
For a one-time fee of $350 you will receive LIFETIME
MEMBERSHIP status (over 35 years of age) with the club. That includes
the following club entitlements: 1) Free from club annual dues for
life. 2) Eligible to play for Grunion Torpedoes or Fossils Old Boys
side. 3) All game fees waived (Free socials). 4) Recognized as an
honored member of the Grunion RFC. 5) Last but not least.FREE BEER
at home game beer gardens (Courtesy of Heineken).
I hope you will become a LIFETIME MEMBER of the Grunion
RFC and supporter rugby in Santa Barbara!
