SANTA BARBARA BLANKET COLLECTION TEAM (led by Bob Schwartz):

12/5th...Pick-up Time/Location TBD (First night of Pre-Season Training) 8:00 PM.

Grunion,

Start the Giving Season off right!...

Please read Major Fraser message below. Right now just get the word out that we need blankets. I will arrange a pick up schedule to send the blankets to Ariz. Also I feel it would be a great learning and giving experience for our kids to take and active role in this humanitarian campaign, That way our children are getting something out of the experience as well. Plse. e mail me back if you have any questions. My goal is 300 blankets.
Also warm winter clothes also works. Also plse. feel free to share this with any other concerned parties that you feel can assist our cause.

Bob Schwartz, The Fossilator!

Subject: RE: BLANKETS benefit KIDS HELPING KIDS
Hello all from Kabul , Afghanistan .
My name is Major Rob Fraser, I am the Civil Military Officer for Task Force Phoenix. I am also a rugger from CAL POLY and SLORFC. Our mission here is to train the Afghanistan National Army; in addition we also work to help win the trust of the people here in Afghanistan . Many of our teams work with schools and orphanages, which are in dire need of the basics to include school supplies and blankets. We interact on a daily basis with children which are Afghanistan ’s next generation. The Afghanistan National Army providing stability and security for a region, our teams are able to focus on humanitarian assistance to those remote villages and distressed schools and orphanages. From your email the blankets will be used across Afghanistan for the cold months ahead where temperatures stay well below 0 F for weeks at a time. The snow fall has begun here in the mountains 12,000ft in the Hindu Kush . We are so grateful for your immediate support of our efforts here. Please let me know if there is more information you may need, my address is below and I am always available via EMAIL.
I will enclose some pictures of the children we support and will ensure your groups are sent photos of the trips we make to pass out the blankets.

Empty Bowls

Several Grunions lent their time and labor this past Sunday to help
with Empty Bowls, an annual event that raises money for the Foodbank
of Santa Barbara. Through government subsidies, the Foodbank is able
to leverage every dollar donated into $19 worth of food. This year
the event raised over $80,000, translating into $1.5 million of food
for children and the elderly. It feels really good to do something
for others. Thanks to the following for their help:

Wormser
Johnny Utah (the nurse)
